Salt and Peppy? (ICNY Recap)

The Geeky Girls traveled to New York City last week to serve as Ambassadors for Inman Real Estate Connect (ICNY). We were honored to be asked once again to participate in one of the real estate industry’s premier events. We arrived Tuesday evening just in time to have dinner with our buddies from RealSatisfied and Dotloop – twice the fun! One year ago RealSatisfied launched at ICNY in Start-up Alley and has had a very successful year of growth – we are so proud of all they have accomplished. Dotloop has had quite a year as well – with CEO Austin Allison being named Inman’s Innovator of the Year at ICSF 2012,  just one of  many times they have received industry recognition. We were excited to be one of the first to see their latest innovation, which will help provide the most positive user experience possible by empowering agents and brokers to connect their clients with preferred vendors within the system. After our sneak peek, they asked us to share our first impressions – the official launch is still a few months away.

The festivities were kicked off with Agent Reboot. Laura Monroe, the Social Media Director for Inman News, got the party started – “Live from New York! It’s Agent Reboot!”.  It was a morning packed with great speakers including Chris Smith, Katie Lance, Marc Davison, Nicole Nicolay, Jimmy Mackin, Matthew Shadbolt, Jim Marks, and Seth Price. As always, Agent Reboot was full of the latest marketing techniques and technology in the real estate industry.

It was standing room only as Brad Inman took the stage for the official start of ICNY.  He spoke of his vision for an easier , faster real estate transaction – The Latte Vision – “a real estate transaction should be as easy as buying a latte”.  There were so many great speakers and panels throughout the week and the final day was dedicated to the topic, The Globalization of Real Estate, which focused on international real estate, technology and global trends.

One of the biggest highlights for us was the Inman 100 party, hosted by Brad Inman. To our surprise, Lisa was named as one of the 100 most influential people in real estate in the Media, Blogging, Social Media, Marketing category. As the The Geeky Girls, we are blessed to have had the opportunity to share what we have learned, what has worked for us and what has not, with agents all over the country.  Lisa was described as the “peppy” half of  The Geeky Girls in the announcement, and if you have ever met Lisa you know that she is full of bubbly energy. We now affectionately refer  to her as”Peppa” …and of course, I am happy to be the “Salt” to her “Peppa” anytime :)

The other big news at the event was the launch of Curaytor, a social search engine created by Jimmy Mackin and Chris Smith. The timing of the announcement of Facebook’s new search seemed a bit ironic, but it did not take away from  the coming out party for Curaytor’s version of  “Facebook Search Optimization”, as Chris Smith has coined. The product they have developed has some amazing potential and we are can’t wait to see all the uses that are created. Make sure you sign up now.

If you have followed our couple of days in NYC, you saw that we got new headshots taken for our websites courtesy of Placester. They had a “Website Factory” set up right there at the conference! We also got to meet Frederick Townes and the rest of Seth’s kick ass staff behind this website, LiveLoveCharlotte and LiveLovePinehurst.

The last day before we hoped on an airplane to head home we had the chance to spend a little time with Tom Ferry. He is truly inspirational and we are humbled and proud to call him our friend. Look out, I see some collaboration coming in 2013!

Inman Connect is always an experience not to be missed! Can’t wait until Inman Connect -San Francisco this summer! Hope to see you there!
